and Community Counselors Counselors Emily G McCreary Sigma Alpha Chi Chapter The Chi Chi Chi Sigma Sigma Sigma Iota Iota (2018) mission statement emphasizes “Promoting excellence in in in the the profession profession of of of of counseling ” and the the University of of of of Texas at at at at San Antonio’s Chi Chi Chi Sigma Sigma Sigma Iota Iota Chapter Sigma Sigma Alpha Chi Chi attends to to to such by creating opportunities for professional development to to to counselors-in-training and practicing counselors counselors alike In my interview with Brittany Hudson president of of of of the the Sigma Alpha Chi chapter she captured this sentiment by stating “This type of of of of intentional involvement (professional development) is is is critical for strengthening professional professional identity and and encouraging counselors to to to step outside of of of of the the the classroom or or or o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o ce in in in in in in the the the spirit of of of of growth and and learning” (B Hudson personal communication October 27 2019) In addition to to to the the knowledge gleaned from professional professional professional development development professional professional professional development development experiences are great opportunities opportunities to to to network and and strengthen one’s professional professional professional professional identity As such Sigma Alpha Chi is dedicated to to to promoting and and and o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o ering professional professional development opportunities opportunities to to to promote excellence for the the the counselor and and the the the community at at at at large Mrs Hudson attested to to to the the the the chapter’s chapter’s dedication to to to professional development development by stating “Professional development development development is is the the heart of of of of our chapter’s chapter’s history and continued growth ” For counselors-in-training Sigma Alpha Chi o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o ers professional development development opportunities that assist graduate students in in in in in in in in in in navigating some of of the most arduous tasks during a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a counseling master’s master’s program prompting events such as as as as as preparing your master’s master’s portfolio applying for for licensure professional writing and and APA formatting NCE bootcamp and and internship internship internship site site site fair fair The chapter hosts an an an an an internship internship internship site site site site fair fair which local agencies on on the approved internship internship internship site site site site list attend This event provides an an an opportunity for students to visit potential sites and establish relationships with agencies in in in the community Mrs Hudson articulated “We have always recognized students students as emerging counseling counseling professionals Our chapter provides opportunities for students students to to lean into their professional professional self and and engage with the the the dynamic world of of of of counseling counseling practice ” In addition the the the chapter o o o o o o o o o o o o ers ers NCE scholarships and and an an an an an abundance of of of leadership Fall 2019 10 CHI SIGMA IOTA EXEMPLAR
